The Shopify SEO checklist that actually moves revenue

Most Shopify SEO checklists are 47 points long and 40 of them don't matter. They make you feel busy while the needle stays put.

Here's the short version: the handful of things that actually move revenue, in the order I'd do them, plus the stuff you're allowed to ignore.

1. Titles and meta on your homepage and collections

The biggest lever, and the most commonly wasted. Your title tag is the strongest on-page signal you've got. Make it say who you are and what you sell, on the homepage and every important collection. Write meta descriptions so Google isn't freestyling your snippet.

2. Real copy on your money collections

Collection pages catch category demand, but only if there are words on them. A couple of useful paragraphs per important collection. This is where most stores' easiest wins are sitting untouched.

3. Internal linking

Link from your homepage and blog to the collections you want to rank. Internal links are how Google works out what matters on your site. Cheap, fast, and most stores barely do it.

4. Product schema

Structured data is what puts price, stock and star ratings into your search results. Without it you're a plain blue link next to competitors showing photos, prices and reviews. Most Shopify SEO apps add it in a click.

5. Speed, especially on mobile

A slow store loses sales and rankings together. You don't need a perfect score; you need to not be painfully slow on a phone. Compress images, drop apps you don't use, and test on mobile data.

6. Clean up index bloat

Tag collections and filtered URLs create piles of near-duplicate pages that dilute your SEO. Keep a tight set of real collections and stop the junk URLs being indexed.

What to ignore, for now

Keyword density. Daily blogging about nothing. Obsessing over a domain authority score. Chasing every point on a 47-item audit. Do the six things above properly first; they're where the revenue actually is.

Common questions

What Shopify SEO tasks actually move revenue?

Six things, in order: titles and meta on your homepage and collections, real copy on your money collections, internal linking, product schema, speed (especially on mobile), and cleaning up index bloat from tag and filter URLs. Most 47-point checklists make you feel busy while the needle stays put, so do these six properly first.

What SEO advice can I safely ignore on Shopify?

For now, ignore keyword density, daily blogging about nothing, obsessing over a domain authority score, and chasing every point on a long audit. Do the six high-impact fixes properly first, because that is where the revenue actually is.

Why does product schema matter for my search results?

Structured data is what puts price, stock and star ratings into your search results. Without it you are a plain blue link next to competitors showing photos, prices and reviews, so you lose the click even when you rank. Most Shopify SEO apps add it in a click.
